Welcome back, this week we are going over the Operational Description.

First you have to select your effective period. I recommend two years. This way you can revisit and update any information that is out of date. Just a reminder that drone technology is moving about as fast as the IPhone. There is a new latest and greatest on the market and depending on what you have for a drone it could already be obsolete in the sense that companies are no longer supporting or providing updates. The DJI Phantom series is a great example of this.

Next you select the following that applies to you. I would recommend the following if you are flying regular off the shelf drones.

Lights Out Operation= No

VFR Operation=Yes

IFR Operation=No

Day Operation=Yes

Night Operation=Yes

Program Executive Summary: This is a brief over view.

Example:

UAS operations in support of the City of “XYZ” Emergency services, infrastructure inspections, aerial surveying, water shed monitoring, police and fire department assistance, search and rescue, utility inspection, and other uses.

Operational Summary: This is a little more detail that can be changed as you go through the process. If there is a certain request or information that you can’t put any place else on the application you can add it in here.

Example:

UAS operations with the DJI Inspire 1 UAS will be conducted within the confines of “XYZ” County at or below 400 feet above the ground or the highest object in the area as depicted in the Flight Operations Area/Plan. All operations will be conducted within a defined operating area and flights will avoid flying over persons or property within the defined area.

Next Location will be grayed out and they will fill this in later.

Class of Airspace. This is where you must look up where you are and the type of air space you are in. That way if you need to have an exemption for Class D airspace you should select that box. If you don’t know email us or give us a call we can help you over the phone.

Next we will cover System Description and we will talk about this next week. Thanks for joining me this week this is Nate signing off, drink whisky, fly drones, shoot guns, (but not at the same time) and have fun in life. Semper FI
